Membership
What is membership?
A co-operative is not about making profits for shareholders - it is a group of people acting together to meet the common needs and aspirations of its members, sharing ownership, making decisions democratically and creating value for customers.
Each of our members has an equal right to a say in how the business is run and how we achieve our social goals. Not only that, but there's a financial benefit - our members receive a share in our profits based on how much they trade with our family of businesses.
What do we stand for?
At The Co-operative we encourage new ideas to tackle issues that are important to our members - from helping the community to tackling environmental concerns.
Membership is open to everyone as long as they share our values and principles. Our members show these values by working together for everyone's benefit, and can get involved by voting on important issues affecting our business, attending local events and taking part in online discussions. Find out more about how you can get involved in your membership community.
Financial benefits
Members are rewarded with a share of our profits. The amount you receive is based on the amount we have made in profits that year, and the amount you spend with our businesses - so the more you spend, the more your share will be.
Being a member also brings with it a host of exclusive member offers.
Becoming a Member
Anyone can become a member as long as they believe in what we stand for. All you have to do is invest £1, which we will collect from your first share of the profits.
