Ethical Consumerism Report 2002
The 2002 Ethical Purchasing Index (EPI) documents impressive growth in the sales of ethical goods and services in 2001. The EPI measures the total value of purchases of a selected basket of ethical goods and services in seven categories of consumer expenditure. In 2001, total sales grew by £1.1 billion, taking the total value of ethical expenditure in the UK to £6.8 billion.
In addition, a further £3.4 billion was deposited with ethical banks and £3.8 billion in ethical investments, taking the total value of the ethical wallet to £13.9 billion.
The twelve page report on the EPI 2002 has been published by the bank and the New Economics Foundation. It is the evidence that can be used to support many claims about strong growth in the market for ethical goods and services.
