At work

You don't need to make major changes to the way you and your colleagues or employees work to see the difference. The right combination of small changes, many costing nothing, can reduce a business' energy bill by thousands of pounds. Why not see what we do or take a look at some of the no cost changes you can make today: [Source: carbontrust.co.uk]

How you can turn your office space into a green space:

Switch off equipment you’re not using

A single computer and monitor left on 24 hours a day will cost over £50 a year. Switching it off out of hours and enabling standby features could reduce this to £15 a year each and prolong the lifespan of equipment. [Source: carbontrust.co.uk]

Be very PC with your old PC

When you're finished with it, send your old computer packing. Computeraid will refurbish it and give it a new lease of life in a developing country somewhere in the world.

Switch lights off in empty rooms

Simply turning lights off in rooms and corridors that aren't being used could cut your company's lighting costs by as much as 15%. [Source: carbontrust.co.uk]

Don’t use more light than you need

If you're only working in one part of a room, why have all the lights on? Don't have the light so low that you are straining your eyes, but try not to use more light than you really need.

Don’t copy others

Think before you print. Less printed copies means less wasted paper and fewer printer cartridges  to recycle.

Write to the bitter end

How many half used biros do you think there are lying forgotten in cabinets and stuffed into coffee mugs around the world? Try not to lose the pen you're using and keep on writing until the ink runs dry.

Save those staples

If every one of us used one less staple a day in the office, then no less than 120 tonnes of steel would be saved every year.  [Source: Friends of the Earth]

Watch the bottom line

Follow our lead. Most of the waster paper from our offices becomes our own-brand Co-operative 100% recycled toilet tissue and 100% recycled kitchen towels sold in our shops.

Don’t put hot equipment near cooling vents

The cooling system will need to work harder to cool an area that is constantly being heated.
