After a road accident

If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an accident and need to make a claim on your car insurance, then it's useful to have the following details handy at all times.

• Name and address of the policyholder and the policy number.
• Details of the claim including the date of the incident, how the incident occurred, the damage caused, property lost and any injuries sustained.
• The registration number of the vehicle, the name and address of the driver and insurance details from the other party involved (e.g. name, address, name of insurer and policy number).
• If you have a Courtesy Car option on your policy then you may need a crime reference number (if applicable) and details of any special requirements (e.g. automatic transmission, child car seat, tow bar).
